PlayStation 2 (abbreviated with the acronym PS2 ) is the second tabletop video game console produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment presented on March 1, 1999 and marketed on March 4, 2000 in Japan on October 26 in North America and November 24 in Europe. From this machine, as for the first Playstation, the version was born Slim more compact in size, with built-in network card and infrared receiver for the remote control (already incorporated in the latest series of original PlayStation 2).

The PlayStation 2 received widespread critical acclaim upon release and, despite being part of the sixth generation of consoles, its version slim it remained in production until December 28, 2012, receiving significant support from Sony and some software houses. In 2011 Sony itself announced the great demand which still came from areas such as the Middle East and South America

Over 4,000 PS2 games have been released, and with 160 million units sold worldwide, the PlayStation 2 is the best-selling console of all time.
